Let's Talk Rebates.

There is no shortage of misinformation regarding rebates and incentives. Below are the current rebates accessible in Victoria. Below are the rebates available with links to their respective government info sites. Plain and Simple. If you add all these rebates up it's quite the savings.

Hawthorn Solar 14.7kW.jpg

This is a rebate which applies to any new or replacement solar to be installed on your roof. provided in the form of small-scale technology certificates (STC's) which can be sold to brokers in order to reduce your out of pocket expense. This rebate is calculated proportionately to the wattage of system installed, so the more panels, the greater the number of STC's created. There are a few rules to adher to in order for successful creation of certificates, such as CEC approved inverters and solar modules. You'll also want to ensure your installer is 'Solar Accreditation Australia' or SAA accredited. By law the company must indicate the value of rebate in their provided quote. At present, a 10.1kW Solar Array will see a reduction of approximately $2735

This is a one off $1400 rebate which involves a separate application process through the Victorian Solar Homes Program overseen by Solar Vic.

There are a few pre-requisites. The main ones being that your house must be valued at less than $3 million on your rates notice & you must have an annual combined household income of less than $210k. (You can use statement of assessments from tax returns going back two calendar years).

You can also access interest free loans through this program.

Your Installer needs to be registered for this program in order to offer it in their proposal.

The most recent rebate which is being rolled out by the recently re-elected Labour Government. It will be calculated similar to the Federal rebate for solar in the sense that STC's will be created depending on the size of the battery system being installed. Each kilowatt hour of storage will see a reduction of approximately $372. So a 9.7kwh Solaredge battery unit should be $3250 cheaper after the rebate.
